Are you a UP student trying to compute your GWA? The University of the Philippines follows a unique grading system that differs from most other Philippine universities. The University of the Philippines uses a numerical grading scale from 1.0 to 5.0, where 1.0 is the highest grade and 5.0 means the student failed the subject.

  • List all your subjects and their corresponding grades and credit units
  • For each subject, multiply the grade by the number of credit units. Example: English (grade: 1.5, units: 3) → 1.5 × 3 = 4.5
  • Add up all the products
  • Add up all the total units
  • Divide the total products by the total units. That is your GWA

Example: Suppose you have 5 subjects with grades 1.5, 1.75, 2.0, 1.5, 2.25 and units 3, 3, 3, 2, 2:
Products: 4.5 + 5.25 + 6.0 + 3.0 + 4.5 = 23.25 | Total units: 3+3+3+2+2 = 13 | GWA = 23.25 ÷ 13 = 1.79
